Cowboy Pledge book drive for Salt Lake Valley Habitat for Humanity ReStore

The Cowboy Pledge 2014 book drive for the Salt Lake Valley Habitat for Humanity ReStore concluded on March 21, 2014. This two week long book drive invited all of the Cowboy Properties Apartment communities located in the Clearfield, Ogden, Salt Lake City, Heber City and Park City, Utah areas, residents and staff members and their families and friends to donate total books to the Habitat for Humanity ReStore to use in their book loaning program.
Residents and friends of several of the Cowboy Properties downtown Salt Lake City apartment communities gathered at Liberty CityWalk Apartments clubroom on March 22, 2014 to help sort and pack the books. They were excited to see how many children’s books had been donated. Over 300 kids’ books of all kinds and sizes and shapes filled the sorting tables and overflowed on to the club room furniture. One generous resident from Liberty City Walk donated almost half of the children’s books and also brought a young family member to help sort and pack them.
A contest was held among the volunteers to see who could guess how many books had been donated. Everyone had fun seeing how close they came as the final count was tabulated and one volunteer guessed very close to the exact number of 587 books. After all of the books were packed and ready for delivery, prizes were awarded and everyone enjoyed the light refreshments that were provided by Cowboy Properties.
All of the books were delivered to the Salt Lake Valley Habitat for Humanity ReStore and many of their customers, who may not be able to afford to buy books, quickly began sorting through them. This service allows them to take a book home knowing that when they are through reading it they can return it and exchange it for another one.
Cowboy Pledge thanks everyone who donated books and all of the volunteers who came to help sort and pack them. The Salt Lake Valley Habitat for Humanity ReStore expressed their appreciation for this large donation and they were especially grateful for the children’s books.
Cowboy Pledge thanks the Salt Lake Valley Habitat for Humanity ReStore for providing the Salt Lake area with one more way for children and adults to gain access to good reading materials. We hope that everyone who donated books of any kind shares in the heart warming thought of a child or adult enjoying reading one of their donated books.
